The Runway Dress | George + Ginger

{Please note that some of these links are affiliate links.  If you purchase something I have recommended, sewn etc. through those links I will receive a small percentage of compensation.  It helps me support my sewing "therapy" and the ability to review and test more patterns.} Beautiful.  Stunning.  Gorgeous. These simple yet very meaningful words were uttered from my husbands mouth when he first saw me in my Runway Dress and then he asked if he needed to put his tux on so he could take me out to dinner.  My 16 year-old daughter asked me who I was planning on going to Prom with.  After I finished laughing, I offered to be her date for Prom.  HA! I've had this green Cotton Lycra and Embroidered Mesh for a looooong time.  My dress form  Anastasia got to "wear" the embroidered mesh for the entire time I've had the mesh.  (My kids think it's funny to "dress" her in my fabric).    My husband thought it would...

Good Luck Cardigan | Ellie and Mac

I’ve always loved a sweater or cardigan.  Truthfully, anything that is comfortable.  I currently have what I can my “bear” sweaters.  I got them at Costco and they are SO ugly, but they are incredibly comfortable.  They make me feel like I’ve been wrapped in goodness when I’m not feeling the best. Like eating comfort food! I know, this is quite a way to start a post about Ellie and Mac’s newest pattern the Good Luck Cardigan.  In all reality though, it’s about the same of goodness.  The difference is that when you slip into the Good Luck Cardigan you find yourself not just comfortable but also looking really stylish! Until I started sewing for myself, I was stuck buying whatever the fashion world deemed appropriate for men.  I’m taller than what they think women wear.  It sounds crazy, but I never got the cute “hit me where they are supposed to sweaters, shirts, cardigans maxi dresses etc.  So, the fact that I can add length ...

Bree | Made for Mermaids

Miss. Thang is growing up a lot faster than I’d like to admit. About a month ago she started asking for “bras”.  In reality, she doesn’t need one. But, her big sister is almost 16 and, she really is at the age where girls start wanting to wear something similar to a bra.  In reality, we were looking for a cami or dance type top that is longer and can be worn with a lot of different types of clothes. So, I’ve been in search of something that would satisfy her wants along with something pretty and my need of something that didn’t break the bank and not make her look like she’s trying to be 16. Similar types of ready to wear start at about $9.  In reality though, they don’t have that much fabric on them so it seems silly to spend that much when I can pull the right size of fabric out of my scrap bin. When I saw the Bree by Made for Mermaids, I knew Miss. Thang and the Bree were a match made in Heaven! The Bree is drafted as a Cami, Crop or Tank.  I love that...

Testing: Dill Pickles Tee

The males in my life are getting A LOT of love right now! Pickle Toe Patterns is re-releasing their Dill Pickles Tee   with so many options! The pattern is on sale until Monday, September 18th !  It's not just a regular tee anymore!  We're talking long sleeves, short sleeves (both with banded options!), shirt length or tunic length (again, with banded options...who needs to hem?!?!),  a kangaroo pocket which is ALWAYS a favorite in my house and hood options.  Hood options?  That's right, you can line the hood (I chose that option.  See below pictures), you can hem the hood or you can band the hood!  I LOVE options!  And I love that I can change up each shirt to look different! To make it even better, this is a uni-sex pattern that has from size 2 to 22!  That means it'll fit up to my 15 year-old! That's A LOT of sizes!  To be able to buy one pattern with that many options to fit that many kids is a STEAL! It...

Testing: Hudson Hooded Pullover

To say my family loves hoodies is an understatement. Do we even have a stronger word than love in the English language? Maybe their actions will have to suffice, because they (all five other members of my crew) are all attempting to wear them already! When I was given an opportunity to test the Men's Hudson Pullover by Greenstyle Creations, my husband was elated! I don't sew for him very often and he was excited that it was his turn. He now has three of them in his closet ready for much cooler weather.  We've been in the high 90's here, so it's still too hot for him to wear to work, but he's more excited for winter to come now. I tested the 2XL version even though he technically fits in the XL.  He likes looser clothing unless he's playing football, so this is a little looser.   The options I chose for this hoodie are: Hood, zipper, pocket and bottom band. The pattern is drafted for a height of 5'10" to 6'0...
