Twinkle Toes and Company

Miss. Thang is growing up a lot faster than I’d like to admit. About a month ago she started asking for “bras”.  In reality, she doesn’t need one. But, her big sister is almost 16 and, she really is at the age where girls start wanting to wear something similar to a bra.  In reality, we were looking for a cami or dance type top that is longer and can be worn with a lot of different types of clothes. So, I’ve been in search of something that would satisfy her wants along with something pretty and my need of something that didn’t break the bank and not make her look like she’s trying to be 16. Similar types of ready to wear start at about $9.  In reality though, they don’t have that much fabric on them so it seems silly to spend that much when I can pull the right size of fabric out of my scrap bin. When I saw the Bree by Made for Mermaids, I knew Miss. Thang and the Bree were a match made in Heaven! The Bree is drafted as a Cami, Crop or Tank.  I love that...

Catherine...not only is it a beautiful name; it is a beautiful shirt, tunic and dress! I had the fantastic opportunity to test the pattern in two sizes!  Normally I'd say I was crazy, I still may be.  However, it was so fun to see how great it fits at a size 6 and a size 14!  (Please note that the flower on the blue dress IS NOT part of the pattern.  I added the flowers.) The first option I made was a size 6, length 8, curved yoke (the curve refers to the curve at the neckline), long sleeve dress.  The dress sits right at the knee or slightly above the knee depending on where the girl falls in height range.  We decided to pair Miss. Thang's dress with Bonnie Legs because it's starting to get cold out. The dress would look great with tights as well, she just wears a lot of leggings so it was easy to match the dress with the leggings.  It would also look fantastic with boots.  And, we're BIG fans of Bonnie Legs in this house! The Kourtney Knot Pattern by Made for Mermaids has achieved Rock Star Status in my home this last week!  So much, that I will be including the following warning label on the manila envelope I store the pattern in : WARNING:  The Kourtney Knot Top, Tunic & Dress MAY (READ:  WILL) cause Dancing! Your child may not be able to control the need to dance.    When I was choosing which options to test, I had Miss. Thang look at both the pocket and the knot, and she decided she needed both. I'm blaming the Knot for the dancing.  It brings out a sassy side that has the desire to move.....A LOT!   The moment Miss. Thang stepped out of the car to take pictures, she started dancing.  She tried her very hardest to stifle that dancing, but then the Chicken Dance escaped.  After that happened, her sister and I embraced the dancing and joined in.  I'm sure we all looked a tad crazy!
