Swim, Tankini....Dress?

{Please note that some of these links are affiliate links.  If you purchase something I have recommended, sewn etc. through those links I will receive a small percentage of compensation.  It costs you nothing, but helps support my sewing "therapy" and the ability to review and test more patterns.} I'm on a roll lately; I've been modeling things I wouldn't typically model. Leggings, Swimsuits, dress with amazing ties in the back?! That's right, a dress with ties in the back.  Now, I wouldn't normally wear a dress that ties in the back or is as tight fitting as the Laura Swim Suit, Tankini and Dress from 5 out of 4. In reality though, the dress itself isn't that tight fitting.  The top is basically a built in bra! Yes, you read that right...a built in bra! Let's face it, when the back looks like this:  You need a built in bra.  I made an F cup FBA...don't panic, the Laura has an FBA already done for you in the pat

Breaking the Rules

"Black is a favorite color choice because of its slimming effects" Somehow I lived a long time believing I needed to wear black.  I haven't always been "fat", but according to the world's standards I've always been plus sized. At 5'11" and with a genetics playing a strong role, I am not a small woman  by any means and honestly I've never been small.  I remember in early high school when I was one of the tallest if not the tallest girl in my class.  Clothes that fit right were really hard to come by.  I wore men's jeans because women's weren't long enough.  And, after spending middle school being made fun of because I wasn't a size 0; I really wanted to just blend into the background and not be noticed. I must have been successful because years later a previous classmate was doing her practicum at the school my mom worked at as the school psychologist and the classmate remembered me as "the quiet girl."  I

Essie Cardigan | Halla

{Please note that some of these links are affiliate links.  If you purchase something I have recommended, sewn etc. through those links I will receive a small percentage of compensation.  It helps me support my sewing "therapy" and the ability to review and test more patterns.} It's Fall ya'll, and it's about time!  I am beside myself with excitement!  I love a good sweater or sweatshirt, blankets, cups of tea and cuddling with my loved ones.  And because it's fall, that means it's absolutely time to wear sweaters! So. FREAKING. EXCITED! Well, I am today because the high is 65.  Before today, it was a tad hot..but I suffered in silence because the brand new Essie Cardigan  by Halla is 100% worth every drop of sweat! As always, the options are outstanding!  Typically I add a cardigan when I'm feeling like staying home or not feeling well.   The Essie though makes me feel cute and dressed up! The different peplum options are fantastic

Knotty Pants | Halla

{Please note that some of these links are affiliate links.  If you purchase something I have recommended, sewn etc. through those links I will receive a small percentage of compensation.  It helps me support my sewing "therapy" and the ability to review and test more patterns.} I wear skirts and dresses a lot, mostly because it's hard to hide the parts of my body that I dislike the most with pants.   The Knotty Pants have helped me step out of my firmly planted comfort zone. When I signed up for this test I didn't know what the pants entailed.  I just knew they were pants.  Thankfully I trust Halla designs though and knew they would be fantastic! I wasn't disappointed whatsoever.  In fact I'm so enamored with them that I've made FOUR pairs! For a girl that loves dresses, that's a lot of pants! These pants are stretch denim from Zenith and Quasar.  I sized up in these because the stretch wasn't quite enough for my norm

Baby Set by Patterns for Pirates

Oh Baby! Sewing for babies isn't normally something I do a lot of.  My "babies" are sadly quite a bit bigger than  typical babies.  But Patterns for Pirates gave me the chance to wade back into the baby sewing waters! And, oh how cute they are....the clothes AND the babies! I actually made a few more sets than I have pictures for, but sadly...sometimes disasters strike and ink + fabric not only makes a very sad looking top, but it makes a very sad (and possibly irritated mom).   I'm in the process of re-making that shirt for the sweet little boy. Anyway, back on topic. Patterns for Pirates has FOUR new patterns!  And, because they now have 75,000+ members...WOW!  That's A LOT of Pirates! And, to make it even better...They're FREE! That's right, FREE!                                                           The Petite Pegs, that's right....Pegs for the babies! What could be cuter than a baby in leggings??
