Spectrum of Shapes: In living Color

Spectrum of Shapes?
Wait....WHAT?  People are shaped differently?  Who knew...

Okay so all joking aside, we all come in different shapes and sizes and in reality that shouldn't be shocking (I sincerely hope anyway).

A couple of us were discussing making the same pattern with our typical adjustments, blogging about it and sharing.  And thus Spectrum of Shapes was born.
I've coincided today with the last day of April and made sure my Adrienne by DIBY is FULL of Color and Stripes!  I'm Breaking all kinds of fashion rules with this one...not to mention the leggings!

Anyway, back to my Adrienne.  I made a size 24 according to my full bust size and graded to a size 26 at the hips.    I chose a boat neck for my neckline and opted to hem my sleeves...because I ran out of fabric and didn't want to add a different fabric.

The Adrienne is drafted for 5'5" and as I'm 5'11" I added 3" for height.  I have a long torso, and I didn't want to mess with the bottom bands so I added the 3" above the waist.  Although that is a typical adjustment for me.

The Adrienne is seriously easy to put together.
I used a Cotton Lycra that I got off a destash group.  I'm fairly certain it's a custom CL, but don't quote me on that.  I like that it's not quite as slouchy as some of the pictures on the DIBY site.  But, I'm going more for spring/summer clothes and I don't want hot.  It gets HOT here, I don't want sweater knits etc.  So, I'm 100% okay with CL.

I love the look of the bands on the side and because I added height above the waist the bands sit right at my waist so I didn't feel like I was going to flash the whole world.  In fact, I felt really comfortable wearing it with leggings.  I'm pretty picky about what I wear with leggings, and I was really comfortable in my Adrienne and my leggings.
Needless to say, I think you should grab the Adrienne and give it a try!

  1. I love the color!! And it fits really, really well. I normally select size based on high bust if available, fits my shoulders best since my bust size is proportional too big for my shoulders, so I usually have to do an FBA or use a full bust pattern piece if available.

  2. That’s the beauty of being able to sew clothes for our bodies. There are some patterns I need to make using an FBA, typically though if I use my full bust measurement I’m good.

  3. When I first saw your Adrienne on you my first thought was, “not for me”. As I continued looking at it, I thought, “maybe I should”. I have always been drawn to solids unless it’s small print. The colors I chose have been mostly fall colors even in the spring. However, brighter shades and different designs have been calling my name! People have been complimenting me wearing reds, purples and oranges. Now it’s time to venture out with designs...

The Adrienne, colors and style look great on you! Thank you!

    1. You should definitely give it a try! Bright colors aren’t for everyone, and that’s okay. It took me a long time to figure out that I did like color and that I actually looked good in them. As far as designs, I’m constantly amazed at what looks good. I would never have guessed I would look good in a lotta the clothes I wear, and yet I do because I decided to take the risk. Give it a try, I’d venture you won’t be disappointed!
