Lazy Day Pants by Pickle Toe Patterns

Sewing pants has always scared me just a little.
Not because I don’t think I have the skills, but rather because I’ve always heard that fitting them can be a nightmare.  (Note, I have sewn bottoms before.  However, never anything “woven with stretch.”)

Let me tell you, that’s a MYTH!
The Lazy Day Pants are anything but difficult!
Miss. Opinionated Teen is not only short, but petite pants never fit her right.  They always drag on the ground no matter what size I buy her.

So, after a lengthy discussion about fabric choices and whether or not the pants I would make would look “homemade” and geeky (she was assured they wouldn’t look either), I entered the world of sewing pants.

I used the information from Closet Case Patterns to help get them to fit her just right.

I wasn’t too sure at first how she would feel about the pockets on the front of the pants.  As it turns out she has VERY strong feelings about women’s clothing not being fully functional!  She is beyond grateful that the Lazy Day Pants have such a large pocket so she can stick her phone in her pocket, or even her hand!  In most of her pants, her hands don’t even fit in them and it drives her nuts that the pants even have pockets if they aren’t going to be functional.
She also really loves the details of the Lazy Day Pants!  These aren’t the only options for details.  I chose to add a faux tab at the bottom with decorative buttons.  She thought it was cute. It would also be really cute on a pair of bermuda shorts or capris...all of which I have no doubt will be in her wardrobe next summer because she’s already begging for more of them!
Over all if she had more thumbs they’d be more than a 2 thumbs up from her.  That’s pretty high for the Opinionated Teen!  As for the sewing, I really REALLY love working with Kellie’s patterns (Pickle Toes Patterns).  I think it’s drafted well, the instructions are clear and as the skill level says on the purchase page “skill level: confident beginner”.  I very much agree.
The fabric called for is a stretch woven.  I used a twill from Joann’s.  If you buy any stretch woven from Joann’s, go in armed with a coupon or purchase online and pick up in the store (they don’t like to honor the prices they have listed online).  If you don’t do either you’ll pay A LOT more for the fabric.
So, if you haven’t sewn pants before, this is a FANTASTIC pattern to start with!

Don’t forget to get your pattern!
