We all have those outfits that we love. The ones we feel amazingly beautiful in.
Halla's Kimono Top & Dress is one of those outfits for me. It's not terribly abnormal for me to have random people stop and tell me they like my clothes, but somehow the Kimono surpassing how many times I've been stopped and told how much they like my dress.
And, I don't blame them. It really is amazing! I'd say it's the flamingos, and while they're amazing; it's not them. The drafting behind the kimono is flawless. I am enamored with the ease of how it's put together.
It looks complicated, in reality though the tutorial is well done and is easy to follow.
And, while I enjoy hemming....no really I do...I decided to try doing a rolled hem with my serger. Why have I never done a rolled hem before?!?! I LOVE how it looks with the Kimono!
Besides the rolled hem, my favorite part is how the pieces look in the bodice looks. It's different than just about anything I've ever sewn. -And the tie at the waist! Growing up my family had several exchange students from Japan. Each one brought my sister and I Kimonos and tried to teach us how to put it on and tie the Obi (if you'd like to read more about exactly what an Obi is feel free to click!). I remember so much giggling as we tried our hardest to tie it right and they tried to express to us that we were doing it wrong. Learning about their culture was an amazing experience and making this Kimono has brought back such fun memories for me! Thankfully for me though, I can tie this tie!
After posting a sneak peak of my Kimono I was asked what the back looked like, so I figured I'd post this picture here as well.
And one of the best parts about it yet? You even look good laying down in it! The Opinionated Teen takes my pictures and I decided I was done taking pictures and so I laid down. She proceeded to arrange my hair and started snapping more pictures. As it turns out, I liked the pictures!
